Fundraising
The Whangarei Riding Therapy Centre relies on donations and grants to cover operating costs. The Ministry of Health has very kindly approved a grant to cover the cost of part time wages (65 per week) though the actual hours worked are closer to 140 hours per week. Our staff and volunteers work the extra hours on an unpaid basis.
The Lion Foundation have approved grants contributing to the cost of administration expenses (phone, power, insurance, etc) for two years which has made a significant difference to our operation, but we will n
eed to find funding to cover vet fees, feed expenses, farrier work, paddock maintenance, horse replacement, vehicle repair, building maintenance - in fact, everything that a working farm needs to work!
To help meet these costs, we hire our facilities on weekends and after riding therapy sessions during the week, and we also offer pony parties. These are aimed at under 10s and have proven very popular. In fact, they are so popular we are booked out for May, June, July, August and September 2007! If you would like more information regarding the pony parties or arena hire, please phone us on 09 438 7521 or email charliehorse@paradise.net.nz.
